Visitors, newly arrived immigrants, and even longtime New Yorkers are struck by the crowds, the rush, and the dizzying range of foods on offer. Of the three meals that mark the American day, lunch is the one that acquired its modern identity here on the streets of New York.

Seven-screen pavilion by OMA for Kanye West

Kanye West‘s first short film was shown on seven cinema screens surrounding the audience inside a pyramid designed by architects OMA at the Cannes Film Festival in France yesterday.

An OMA-designed temporary pavilion at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival was inaugurated with a screening of Kanye West’s debut short film Cruel Summer. The pavilion, with a design led by Shohei Shigematsu, is a raised pyramid containing a seven-screen cinema invented by West’s creative team, Donda.

The pavilion is designed to immerse the audience in a space defined by seven screens of cinematic proportions (17’ x 17’, 17’x30’’). Shot with a custom seven-camera rig in Qatar, Cruel Summer was envisioned for this space as a constellation of projections that wrap around the audience through the configuration of the screens.

Located along Palm Beach, the pyramid’s canopy is hemmed to open up a panoramic backdrop of Cannes and the Mediterranean while creating an effect of levitation above the red carpet. Filmgoers ascend into the pyramid along a continuous red carpet that widens into the 200 seat auditorium. OMA worked with Cannes-based production team Ar’Scene to design an optimized triangular steel frame to accommodate the pavilion’s unique technical requirements.

“The pyramid subtly distinguishes itself from the context of white event sheds in Cannes while achieving a structure able to suspend the complex screen, sound and projection installations,” partner-in-charge Shohei Shigematsu commented. “We are excited to be involved in developing this prototype for a new cinematic experience, together with other creative entities.”

The project was designed out of OMA’s New York office with project architect Oana Stanescu in collaboration with Donda and 2×4, Inc. The pavilion will be open for two days of public screenings on May 24 and 25.

The Museum of London has launched an iPhone app which cleverly brings its extensive art and photographic collections to the streets of the capital...

The free app, called StreetMuseum, has been developed with creative agency Brothers and Sisters and makes use of geo tagging and Google Maps to guide users to various sites in London where, via the iPhone screen, various historical images of the city appear - just like in the image above.

The Cool Hunter: Prada's Market 2005

 These days Prada isn’t just a name in fashion. The venerable Italian fashion house has its elegant fingers in several other pies including mobile phones and staging mammoth events.

 Last month the label hosted one of the parties of the year in the city of Valencia in Spain to celebrate the America’s Cup. As principal sponsors of one of the participating yachts, Luna Rossa, Prada spared no expense at its lavish VIP do held at the Central Market which is normally home to a buzzing produce market.

 The event attracted a slew of local and international celebrities who lapped up the unique ambience – organizers left a lot of the stalls intact including fruit stalls and delis, and guests were invited to sample the produce on offer. One deli housed the event’s DJ, who mixed tunes amid the Parma ham and anchovy tins, while other stalls where converted into mini showcases of Prada accessories; with belts and bags hanging from hooks as if they were pieces of fruit. In one deli stall Prada even displayed its silk turban range.

Dinner was served on a series of intimate dining tables that were scattered through out the venue, giving party goers the feeling that they were at an elegant dinner party. By Laura Demasi.

In all his works, whether they involve images, texts or objects, Shrigley tells his stories in the simplest possible way, leaving room for the rest of us to complete the narratives for ourselves. As he puts it himself: 'I try to not say too much... The story is told inside the viewer's head

This exhibition was humorous and amusing with full of surprises.

And I heard people giggling and laughing all the time.
Better than I thought.
